Thailand's exports hit a 5 year high

The Kingdom hits a 5 year high in exports
The value of Thai exports in January stood at US$20.1 billion, an increase of 17.6% year on year, according to Thai National Shippers' Council (TNSC).
The value of merchandise exports surged with a growth of 16.7 percent compared to the same period last year, the highest growth seen in 62 months, according to the Bank of Thailand.
The TNSC said motor vehicles and parts, computer components, and food contributed to the record growth.
Key examples are:
- The continued increase in crude oil price which contributed to the increase in export of petroleum-related and chemical products.
- The increase in exports of automotive and parts, mainly tyres.
- The increase in exports from industries which recently expanded their production capacity, such as hard disk drives (HDD).
- The continued improvement in external demand for agro-manufacturing products, such as rice, rubber products, sugar, and cassava.

Thailand launches new Smart Visa to attract foreign talent
Thailand has been making a series of efforts in driving the economy through innovation. The Thai Government has taken another step
to attract talents and technologies with a view to further developing its targeted industries or the so called S-Curve industries, by implementing the Smart Visa program.
The program was launched on February 1, 2018. The Smart Visa program has been designed to attract science and technology experts, senior executives, investors and start-ups in the 10 S-Curve industries or the country's targeted industries.
These industries are next-generation automotive, smart electronics, affluent, medical and wellness tourism, agriculture and biotechnology, food for the future, robotics, aviation and logistics, biofuels and biochemical, digital, and medical hub.
