Hong Kong once again named world’s freest economy |
|

|
The Fraser Institute’s Economic Freedom of the World: 2017 Annual Report which compares 159 countries and territories has named Hong Kong as the world’s freest economy.
The ranking is based on 5 areas: size of government, legal structure and security of property rights, access to sound money, freedom to trade internationally, and regulation of credit, labour and business. Hong Kong continues to achieve particularly high rankings in the regulation and economic freedom areas.
In a statement the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government stated that the Institute’s high regard of Hong Kong affirms the administration’s commitment in upholding economic freedom and in sustaining a favourable business environment.
In response to claims in the Institute’s press release that there are concerns interference from the Mainland could affect the rule of law in Hong Kong, the government said that there are no objective facts to support this claim.
